Fig. 1.54. Headlight switch operation diagram

To turn on the following light signals, turn the headlight/turn signal lever handle (Fig. 1.54).

Position 1 – parking lights, rear lights, number plate lights, side lights and instrument panel lights.

The tail light indicator light (green) on the instrument panel indicates that the tail lights are on.

Position 2 - headlights and all the lighting listed above.

Position 3 ("AUTO") – headlights and/or all listed lighting in position 1.

They turn on and off automatically depending on the ambient light.

When entering a dark tunnel, garage, etc., to turn on the headlights as needed, turn the knob to position 2.

Before turning on the headlights, adjust the headlight level.

Fig. 1.55. Automatic lighting control sensor

The text is quoted from the source website [ToyotaMan]

The automatic light control sensor is installed on the driver's side at the top of the instrument panel (Fig. 1.55).

To avoid covering this sensor, do not place anything on the dashboard and/or attach anything to the windshield.

If the automatic headlight adjustment comes on too early or too late, contact your Toyota dealer to have the sensor adjusted.
