Before starting the engine
1. Inspect the area around the car before getting into it.
2. Adjust the seat position, seat back angle, seat cushion height, head restraint height and steering wheel angle.
3. Adjust the interior and exterior rearview mirrors.
4. Lock all doors.
5. Fasten your seat belts.
Apply the parking brake firmly.
Turn off unnecessary lighting and accessories.
Manual transmission: depress the clutch pedal to the floor and shift the transmission to neutral. Hold the clutch pedal down to the floor until the engine starts.
Automatic transmission: set the selector lever to position «R». If you need to restart the engine while the vehicle is moving, set the selector lever to «N». The starter safety device will prevent the starter from operating if the selector lever is in any drive position.
Automatic transmission only: depress the brake pedal and keep it pressed to the floor before driving off.
Check the tire pressure with a pressure gauge and carefully inspect the tires for cuts, damage or excessive wear.
Wheel nuts. Make sure all nuts are in place and not loose.
Fluid leaks. After the vehicle has been parked for a certain time, check under the bottom for fuel, oil, water or liquid leakage. It is normal for water to drip from the air conditioning system after use.
Light signals. Check that the headlights, brake lights, tail lights, direction indicators and other lights are working properly. Check headlight adjustment.
Make sure you don't forget the jack and wheel wrench.
Make sure the brake pedal has sufficient clearance from the floor.
Make sure you have spare fuses. You must have all the fuse ratings listed on the fuse box cover.
Make sure the coolant level is correct.
Check the condition of the battery by the color of the indicator. Inspect for corrosion or loose terminals and cracks in the case. Check the condition of cables and connections.
Check fuel lines for leaks or loose connections.
Engine starting
Normal engine start procedure.
Multi-point fuel injection system/sequential multi-point fuel injection system of the engine automatically adjusts the proper air-fuel mixture for starting. You can start a cold or hot engine as follows: With your foot off the accelerator pedal, crank the engine by turning the key to «START». Release it when the engine starts.
The engine should be warmed up while driving, not idling. To warm up the engine, drive the vehicle smoothly at a steady speed until the engine coolant temperature reaches the normal range.
If the engine stalls, simply restart it using the appropriate normal start procedure.
Attention! Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds at a time. This can cause the starter motor and wiring system to overheat.
Attention! Do not give full throttle when the engine is cold.
Attention! If the engine is difficult to start or stalls frequently, have it checked immediately.
