Remove the flat tire by pulling it to the side and set it aside.
Pic. 1.154. Spare wheel installation
Roll the spare wheel into position and align the holes in the wheel with the bolts. After that, lift the wheel and thread the top bolt into the hole. Rock the wheel and put it on other bolts (pic. 1.154).
Before installing the wheel, remove any rust from the wheel mounting surface with a wire brush or similar tool. Lack of solid metal-to-metal contact when installing wheels can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and cause the wheel to come off while driving.
Install all wheel nuts in place and hand tighten.
Pic. 1.155. Installing and tightening the wheel nuts by hand
Install wheel nuts (tapering end inwards) into place and tighten them as tightly as possible by hand (pic. 1.155). Press down on the tire and try tightening the nuts even further.
Lower the vehicle completely and tighten the wheel nuts.
To lower the vehicle, turn the jack handle counterclockwise.
When tightening nuts, use only a wheel wrench. Do not use other tools or any additional leverage other than your hands, such as a hammer, pipe, or feet. Make sure the wrench engages the nut securely.
Pic. 1.156. Wheel Nut Tightening Procedure
Tighten each nut a little at a time in the sequence shown in Figure 1.156. Repeat this process until all nuts are fully tightened.
Warning! Before lowering the vehicle, make sure that the vehicle does not injure you or others after lowering the vehicle.
Warning! After changing a wheel, the wheel nuts must be tightened as quickly as possible with a torque wrench to 103 Nm (10.5 kgf·m). Failure to do so may cause nuts to loosen and wheels to come off, resulting in a serious accident.
Reinstall the wheel trim.
Align the notch on the decorative cap with the inflation nipple stem.
Press firmly on one side of the wheel trim with your hand, then tap the other side along the rim of the trim with your palm to snap it into place.
Check the air pressure in the replaced tire.
Adjust the air pressure to the required level. If the pressure is lower than indicated, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate the tire to the required level.
Be sure to replace the tire valve cap, as dirt and moisture can get into the valve stem and cause air leakage. If the cap is lost, install a new cap as soon as possible.
