Fuse box location (Avalon)
The fuse box on Avalon vehicles is mounted under the instrument panel to the left of the steering column.
Relay and fuse box (Solara and Camry)
On Solara and Camry vehicles, a single relay and fuse box is located in the engine compartment. On Avalon vehicles, the relay and fuse boxes are separate.
Relay location
Some of the relays are mounted next to the suspension cap on the driver's side.
On the vehicles in question, relays are included in the circuits of such consumers as fuel system units, starter, fog lights, and a sound signal. Relays are used for controlled switching on and off of a high-current consumer under the action of a low-power electrical signal. The relays are mounted in mounting blocks in the engine compartment. The relay can be taken out and checked, the faulty relay is replaced. The marking of the relay is applied on its body or on the panel of the mounting block.
Examination
Typical 4-pin relay terminal designations
Non-standard 4-pin relay
Some 4-pin relays have pins numbered 1,2,3, and 5, however, their function is exactly the same as for relays with pins 1-4.
Terminal designations for a typical 5-pin relay
1. The most reliable results are obtained by testing using a relay switching circuit. If there is no wiring diagram, then check with the following in mind. A pair of terminals of any relay is connected to a coil that provides the operation of the relay. The remaining outputs in pairs close or open when the coil is energized. As a rule, the wiring of the relay outputs is indicated on its body.
2. Connect one of the terminals of the relay coil to the positive terminal of the battery through a wire with thin wire as a fuse. Connect the second output to ground. Once connected, you should hear a click. If there is no click, then reverse the connection polarity (which must be observed on some relays).
3. Check the presence of a circuit between the relay outputs in accordance with the markings on the case.
4. If the test results are negative, replace the relay.
