Ignition switch and lock drum — checking and replacement [Toyota Camry XV20]

Ignition Switch Test Diagram

Examination

1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector by locating it along the wires from the switch. 2. Use an ohmmeter or test lamp to check for a circuit between the specified terminals in different key positions. Replace the lock if the results of at least one of the tests are negative.

Replacement

1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Turn the key to the ACC position.

3. Remove the steering wheel.

4. Remove both steering column covers.

5. Remove the switch combination from the steering shaft.

Replacing the ignition switch

1. Disconnect the wires from the ignition switch.



2. Loosen the mounting screws (indicated by arrows) and remove the lock.



3. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Replacing the switch (drum) of the lock

1. Press the spring-loaded pin with a thin screwdriver.



2. Turn the key to the ACC position, press the pin and remove the lock switch.

3. When installing the lock, press the pin and insert the switch into the socket on the steering column until it is secured with the pin, which should go into the hole in the steering column.

4. Then assembly is carried out in reverse order.
