Checking and adjusting the parking brake [Toyota Camry Vista-V40]

1. Remove the parking brake lever hole trim (parking brake pedal hole cover).

2. Check the stroke of the parking brake lever (pedal). Pull the lever (press the pedal) apply the parking brake all the way and count the number of clicks.

Movement of the parking brake engagement lever (pedal) under tension:
  • 196 N (for the lever) — 4 - 7 clicks
  • 294 H (for pedal) — 3-6 clicks

3. Make sure that the indicator lamp comes on when the parking brake is applied.

4. Install the parking brake lever hole trim (parking brake pedal hole cover).

Rear drum brakes



1. Adjust the rear brake clearance.

a) Remove the rear wheel and brake drum

b) Measure the inner radius of the brake drum.

c) Measure the maximum radius of the brake drum.

d) Make sure that the difference between the measured radii is within the specified limits.
  • Nominal clearance - 0.6 mm

If the difference between the radii is greater than the specified value, adjust it by turning the adjusting bolt.

2. Install the brake drum and rear wheel.
  • Tightening torque - 105 Nm

Rear disc brakes



1. Adjust the parking brake clearance.

a) Remove the wheel and secure the disc with two nuts.

b) Release the parking brake lever (pedal) completely.

c) Remove the plug from the brake disc.

d) Align the hole in the disk with the adjusting screw.

d) Turn the adjusting screw until the pads lock the disc.



e) Make sure that the pad is fully seated on the disc. Turn the screw in the opposite direction until the disc starts to rotate freely.



g) Make sure that the parking brake cable is not overtightened.

c) Install the plug, nut and wheel.

4 - idle speed control handle when warming up the engine (ZS-T with manual transmission),
5 - side trim of the interior,
6 - front door threshold trim,
7 - pedal pad,
8 - brake pedal,
9 - spacer,
10 - spring,
11 - bolt,
12, 15 - saddle,
13 - cotter pin,
14 - bushing,
16 - spring washer,
17 - fork axle,
18 - hood lock lever.
