Unscrew the nut and disconnect the wire terminal from the output of the traction relay (pic. 7.41).

Loosen the two starter cover bolts (pic. 7.42).
Remove the drive side starter cover.
Pull the starter housing complete with the stator winding and armature from the traction relay housing.

Using needle nose pliers, remove the circlip (pic. 7.43).

Remove the two pinch bolts securing the starter cover on the commutator side (pic. 7.44).
Remove the cover from the side of the switch.

Using a magnetic rod, remove the steel ball from the hole in the freewheel shaft (pic. 7.45).

Using a screwdriver, depress the brush spring and disconnect the brush from the brush holder. Disconnect the four brushes and remove the brush holder (pic. 7.46).
Make sure it's positive (+) the wire is not shorted to ground.
Remove the anchor from the starter housing.
