Pic. 2.364. Main bearing shells
Install the main bearing shells. The main bearing shells vary in width, in addition, the upper main bearing shells have an oil channel and oil holes (pic. 2.364).
Pic. 2.365. Number marking of the main bearing cap
Align the tabs of the upper bearing shells with the grooves (grooves) bed of the cylinder block and insert the liners. Align the tabs of the lower bearing shells with the grooves (grooves) in the main bearing caps and install them. Main bearing caps numbered (pic. 2.365).
Pic. 2.366. Installing the upper thrust half rings in the bed of the main bearing block No. 2
Install the upper thrust washers into the bed of the #2 main bearing block with the oil grooves facing out (pic. 2.366).
Lay a cranked shaft in the block of cylinders.
Pic. 2.367. Correct orientation of thrust washers on bearing cap #2
Install the main bearing caps and thrust washers. Install the two thrust washers on the #2 bearing cap with the oil grooves facing outward (pic. 2.367).
Pic. 2.368. Installing main bearing caps
Install the main bearing caps (pic. 2.368).
Pic. 2.350. Additive for main bearing caps
Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads and under the heads of the main bearing cap bolts. Temporarily tighten the eight main bearing cap bolts. Using a plastic-faced hammer, shrink the bearing caps to a snug fit (see fig. 2.350).
Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads and under the heads of the main bearing cap bolts (with 12-point head).
Pic. 2.351. The order of tightening the bolts of the main bearing caps
Install and evenly tighten the bolts of the main bearing caps in several passes in the sequence shown in Figure 2.351.
Pic. 2.352. The correct position of the mark when tightening the cylinder head bolts
Apply paint marks to the front of the cylinder head bolts. Tighten the cylinder head bolts 90°in the above sequence. Check that the inked mark is 90°from the original position (see fig. 2.352).
Install new sealing washers on the main bearing cap bolts (with 6-point head).
Pic. 2.353. The sequence of tightening the bolts of the main bearing caps
Install and evenly tighten the bolts of the main bearing caps in several passes in the sequence shown in Figure 2.353.
Make sure the crankshaft rotates smoothly. Using a dial indicator, measure the crankshaft end play while moving the crankshaft with a screwdriver.
