1. Using a special tester for checking the ignition system without a distributor, connect the tester clamp to the ground and the high-voltage wire and, while turning the engine with the starter, observe the tester electrode to determine the presence of a spark.
2. If there is a spark, then the spark plug is receiving voltage. Check for spark on the other cylinders in the same way.
3. If there is no spark or it is skipped, check the voltage at the ignition coil.
4. If there is still no spark, check the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.
5. If there is still no spark, check the signal from the ignition module to the coils. Remove the connectors from each coil and connect an LED tester. While cranking the engine with the starter, watch the tester, which should blink, indicating that signals are coming from the ignition module to the coil.
6. If there is still no spark, replace the ignition unit.
