Removing
1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.
Attention! If your radio has an anti-theft code, check that you have the pairing codes before disconnecting the battery.
Attention! On models since 1993, the airbag system is disabled if the battery is disconnected for an extended period. If the airbag warning light comes on and stays on after reconnecting the battery, take it to a specialist workshop to restore the system to normal.
2. Remove the gearbox.
3. Remove the clutch release fork from the ball stud, then remove the release bearing from the clutch release fork.
Examination
1. Check the release bearing, which should rotate easily, evenly and silently. The working surface of the bearing acting on the pressure spring must be smooth, without cracks, local corrosion or wear.
Installation
1. Apply a thin film of high temperature grease to the inner surface of the release bearing, input shaft splines and release bearing guide bushing.
2. Apply a light coat of high temperature grease to the release fork areas that contact the release bearing, ball stud, and pushrod.
3. Install the release bearing on the clutch release fork.
4. Install the release bearing on the guide bush at the front of the transmission. In this case, pass the clutch release fork through the hole in the clutch housing. Install the clutch release fork onto the ball stud until it locks into place.
5. Apply a light coat of high temperature grease to the front side of the release bearing that contacts the pressure plate diaphragm spring.
6. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
