Cause
Method of elimination
The starter does not rotate after the ignition is turned on
The battery is discharged Charge the battery.
Break in wire 50 to ignition switch lock, ignition switch wire damaged Repair the break, replace damaged parts.
Wire or ground terminal broken. Battery discharged Check the wire and terminal of the battery. Measure the voltage of the battery, charge it if necessary.
Insufficient current flow due to free or oxidized compounds Clean the battery terminals and poles. Ensure the necessary connection between the battery, starter and ground.
No voltage at pin 50 (traction relay). Wire break, ignition switch damaged Repair the break, replace damaged parts.
The starter is too slow and does not turn the engine
The battery is discharged Charge the battery.
The engine is not filled with all-season or winter oil Fill with all-season oil.

Insufficient current due to loose or oxidized wire tips

Clean the terminals of the batteries, starter and wire ends, tighten the connections.
The brushes do not contact the commutator, are jammed in their holders, are worn out, oily or dirty Check brushes, clean or replace. Check brush holder.
Incorrect clearance between brushes and commutator Replace the brushes and clean the brush holder.
There is carbon deposits, scratches, and contamination on the manifold Regrind the commutator or replace the anchor.
No voltage at pin 50 (minimum 80V) Check the ignition switch or traction relay.
The bearings are knocked out Check bearings, replace if necessary.
The traction relay is damaged Replace the traction relay.
The starter engages and starts to operate, but the engine does not turn over or turns over jerkily
The gear mechanism is damaged (drive gear mechanism) Replace the gear mechanism.
The drive gear is dirty Clean the gear.
The flywheel ring gear is damaged Repair the ring gear, replace the flywheel if necessary
The gear mechanism does not disengage
The gear mechanism or screw splines are dirty or damaged Clean or replace the gear mechanism.
The traction relay is damaged Replace the traction relay.
The return spring is cracked or weakened Replace the spring.
