Removing
Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the coolant from the crankcase and from the radiator.
3. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
4. Remove throttle, fuel injectors and fuel line.
5. Remove the intake manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.
7. Remove the timing belt, camshaft sprocket and upper intermediate pulley.
8. Remove the top section of the rear timing belt cover.
9. Remove the camshafts and valve lifters.
10. Remove the generator and ignition distributor.
11. Remove the power steering pump bolts. Move the pump to the side without disconnecting the hoses from it.
12. Disconnect all wires, tubes, hoses and cables attached to the cylinder head.
13. Loosen and unscrew the head bolts in the reverse sequence to that shown in the figure Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence. Loosen the bolts a quarter of a turn at a time.
14. Remove the cylinder head.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean and wipe the mating surfaces of the head and cylinder block with acetone. If the surfaces are scratched or otherwise damaged, they must be treated by a specialist workshop.
2. Using a suitable tap, clean the threads in the cylinder block. Using a suitable die, clean the cylinder head bolts.
3. Install a new head gasket and install the head.
4. Lubricate the bolts with clean engine oil.
5. Insert the bolts and tighten them to the required tightening torque in the sequence shown in the figure Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence.
6. Install the remaining parts.
