The brakes of the vehicles in question are equipped with dual-circuit hydraulic drives for the front and rear wheels. The front brakes are disc brakes, the rear brakes are disc or drum brakes.

The brakes are equipped with an automatic clearance adjustment system in the pads (with disk or drum). In drum brakes, the automatic adjustment system is activated when the parking brake is applied.

Hydraulic brake drive

Dual-circuit hydraulic brake drive (separate for front and rear wheels). The brake feed tank is divided into two sections, one for each circuit. The hydraulic drive additionally includes a double metering valve, which ensures equalization of braking of the front and rear wheels (located on the bulkhead of the engine compartment).

Vacuum booster

Mounted on the engine compartment bulkhead, it increases the force on the brake pedal due to the vacuum created in the engine intake manifold.

Parking brake

The parking brake has a cable drive to the rear wheels and is activated by a lever (on Camry and Camry Solara models), or pedal (avalon models). The lever is located on the central floor panel of the front trim panel of the passenger compartment, the pedal is mounted on the left mudguard of the body in the passenger compartment.

Brake maintenance

After performing repairs involving disassembling the brakes, check their operation by driving on a smooth, level road. When braking, the car should not move to the side, braking should be smooth. The brakes are checked by smooth and sharp braking at different speeds, avoiding, however, complete wheel locking to prevent tires from slipping on the road surface. The braking efficiency of the vehicles in question is also affected by the condition of the tires, the vehicle load, and the correct adjustment of the wheel alignment angles.
