Attention! The ignition timing setting procedure applies to almost all vehicles covered in this Manual. If the ignition timing setting procedure specified in the vehicle's underhood plate differs from that described below, follow the instructions on the plate. The ignition timing is not adjustable on all vehicles covered, so if the ignition timing is incorrect, the ignition system units should be checked for proper operation.
1. Connect the tachometer according to the manufacturer's instructions.

2. Find the diagnostic connector and short-circuit the E1 and TE1 terminals.
3. With the ignition off, connect the stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Locate the ignition timing marks (arrow) on the front cover and on the crankshaft pulley.
5. Warm up the engine, make sure that the engine idle speed is 700 rpm on a car with a manual transmission and 750 rpm on a car with an automatic transmission. Direct the strobe light at the scale. The mark on the crankshaft pulley should be opposite the corresponding division of the scale.
