Pic. 2.105. Measuring the end play of the crankshaft
Using a dial indicator, measure the axial play of the crankshaft by moving it back and forth (pic. 2.105).
The standard clearance is 0.040–0.240 mm.
Limit clearance - 0.300 mm.
If the axial clearance is greater than the maximum allowable, replace the thrust washers.
The thickness of the thrust half rings is 1.930–1.980 mm.
Pic. 2.106. The procedure for removing the bolts of the main bearing caps
In order to measure the radial clearance in the main bearings, evenly loosen and unscrew the bolts of the main bearing caps in several passes in the sequence shown in Figure 2.106.
Pic. 2.107. Checking the gas joint of the cylinder block for warpage
Remove the upper thrust washer of the crankshaft. Remove the crankshaft bearings. Remove the cylinder block studs. Check the gas joint surface of the cylinder block for warpage using a special ruler and a flat feeler gauge (pic. 2.107).
Maximum warpage - 0.05 mm.
Pic. 2.108. Cylinder diameter measurement
Check cylinder diameter. Using a dial indicator-caliper, measure the cylinder diameter at three levels A, B and C in the transverse 1 and longitudinal 2 directions, as shown in Figure 2.108.
Standard diameter:
- 1AZ-FE - 86.000–86.013 mm;
- 2AZ-FE - 88.500–88.513 mm.
Limit diameter:
- 1AZ-FE - 86.013 mm;
- 2AZ-FE - 88.513 mm.
If the diameter is larger than the limit, replace the cylinder block.
