Note:
- - The automatic transmission type is stamped on an aluminum plate located in the engine compartment, in the line designated TRANS/AXLE.
- - Operation of the automatic transmission, replacement of fluids in the automatic transmission, final drive and transfer case, see the chapter "User manual".
Planetary gearbox
The planetary gearbox contains three planetary gear sets, three locking clutches, four brakes and three freewheel clutches.
Power from the engine is transmitted through the torque converter to the input shaft of the planetary gearbox.
Gear shifting is accomplished by engaging a specific combination of two controls, which changes the output shaft speed.
Elements of a planetary gearbox
1. Locking clutch of the step-up planetary gear set (C0) — connects the planet carrier and the sun wheel of the step-up row.
2. Brake of the overdrive row (B0) - stops the solar wheel of the step-up row.
3. Clutch No.1 of the overdrive row freewheel (F ₁) - when the second gear brake is engaged, it prohibits counterclockwise rotation of the sun gears of the front and rear planetary rows.
4. Forward coupling (C₁) — connects the input shaft and the epicycle of the front planetary row
5. Second gear brake (B ₂) - stops the outer ring of the freewheel clutch No.1, prohibiting the counterclockwise rotation of the sun gears of the front and rear planetary rows.
6. Brake of the 1st gear and reverse gear (B₃) - stops the driver of the rear planetary row.
7. Freewheel clutch No.2 (F ₂) — prevents the rear planetary gear carrier from rotating counterclockwise.
8. Direct drive coupling (C₂) — connects the input shaft and solar gears of the front and rear planetary row.
9. Brake for providing engine braking mode in second gear (B₁) - stops the rotation of the solar gears of the front and rear planetary rows.
10. Overdrive freewheel clutch (F0) - when the engine starts, it connects the sun gear and the planetary gear carrier of the step-up gear set.
Hydraulic control system
The control system includes: an oil pump, a valve block, electromagnetic valves, hydraulic accumulators, locking clutches and brakes. The main pressure in the system is created by the pump, it is regulated by the control system depending on the load and speed of the car, and ensures the operation of the torque converter, locking clutches and brakes.
The shift valves control the flow of fluid into the torque converter and planetary gearbox.
The valve block has one solenoid valve that controls the step-up planetary gear set.
