Power steering pump (3S-FE, 4S-FE) [Toyota Camry Vista-V40]

Removal



1. Drain the power steering fluid.

2. Remove the right front drive shaft (see chapter "Drive shafts").

3. Disconnect the return hose from the tank.

Note: Avoid getting working fluid on the drive belt.




4. Using a special tool, disconnect the discharge line.
  • Tightening torque - 45 Nm

Note: When connecting the discharge line, tighten its fitting so that no threads protrude.




5. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.



6. (WD models)



Unscrew the two bolts and remove the protective cover.
  • Tightening torque - 25 Nm





Removing the power steering pump (3S-FE, 4S-FE).
1, 2 - cotter pin,
3 - rotation speed sensor,
4 - right steering rod,
5 - lock nut,
6 - right front drive shaft,
7 - retaining ring,
8 - O-ring seal,
9 - protective cover,
10 - central engine protection casing,
11 - right engine protection cover,
12 - return pipeline,
13 - discharge pipeline,
14 - pump assembly,
15 - vacuum hose,
16 - gasket.




Power steering pump (3S-FE, 4S-FE).
1 - key,
2 - return pipeline nipple,
3 - oil seal,
4, 6, 10, 13, 20, 27, 30 - O-ring seal,
5 - discharge pipeline nipple,
7 - flow regulator,
8 - spring,
9, 19, 31 - retaining ring,
11 - front disc,
12, 15 - mounting pin,
14 - pump shaft,
16 - pump body,
17 - saddle,
18 - idle speed increase valve,
21 - spring seat,
22 - pulley,
23 - blade,
24 - rotor,
25 - stator ring,
26 - rear disc,
28 - wave washer,
29 - housing cover.

Note: when assembling, apply the following to the parts indicated by the arrows:
  • white arrow - consistent lubricant,
  • black arrow - power steering fluid.


7. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the booster pump assembly with the discharge and return pipes.



When installing the pump, adjust the tension of the booster pump drive belt before tightening the second mounting bolt (see the relevant section).
  • Tightening torque - 40 Nm



8. Place the pump in a vice and disconnect the return and discharge lines.
  • Tightening torque of the union bolt - 52 Nm



Installation



1. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. When installing, refer to the assembly drawing.

2. Top up the power steering fluid.

3. Bleed the power steering system.

4. Check for leaks in the system.
