Removing the oil pump
1. Drain the engine oil.
2. Remove the timing belt. See subsection "Removing the timing belt".
Note: Remove the camshaft pulleys only if necessary.
3. Remove the oil pump sprocket and crankshaft.
4. Remove the dipstick and guide.
5. Remove the oil pan, oil pickup, oil damper and gasket (see section "Cylinder block").
6. Remove the oil pump by unscrewing the bolts.
Oil pump disassembly
1. Remove pressure reducing valve by removing retaining ring, spring seat and spring.
2. Remove the male and female rotors by undoing the screws and removing the housing cover and gasket.
Oil pump check
1. Check pressure reducing valve.
After lubricating the surface of the valve with fresh engine oil, install it in the mounting hole and make sure that the valve drops under its own weight.
If it doesn't, replace the valve or the entire oil pump.
2. Using a feeler gauge, measure the radial clearance between the driven rotor and the pump housing.
Rated Clearance:
- ZS-T - 0.10 -0.17 mm
- 3S-FE, 4S-FE - 0.10-0.26 mm
Maximum allowable - 0.20 mm
3. Using a feeler gauge, measure the radial clearance between the male and female rotor lugs.
Nominal:
- ZS-T - 0.050 - 0.150 mm
- 3S-FE, 4S-FE - 0.040 - 0.160 mm
Maximum allowable - 0.20 mm
4. (ZS-T) Using a pointer indicator, measure the protrusion of the rotor above the mating surface:
Protrusion - 7.00 - 7.06 mm
If either gap is greater than maximum, replace both rotors. Replace the entire pump if necessary.
Replacing the front crankshaft oil seal
Replacing the front oil seal, see chapter "General Repair Procedures" section "Cylinder block".
