A) Make sure there is no play in the outer hinge.
b) Check that the inner hinge slides smoothly in the direction of thrust.
V) Make sure there is no noticeable radial play in the inner joint.
G) Check the condition of the hinge covers.
2. Using a screwdriver, remove the four collars of the hinge covers. Slide the covers towards each other.
3. Disconnect the inner joint race.
A) Put alignment marks on the inner joint race and the drive shaft.
Note: Do not make alignment marks with a sharp object.
b) Remove the inner joint race from the drive shaft.
4. Remove the triple joint.
A) Remove the retaining ring using the special tool.
b) Put alignment marks on the drive shaft and triple joint.
Note: Do not make alignment marks with a sharp object.
V) Using a copper rod and a hammer, remove the triple joint from the drive shaft.
G) (ZS-T) Using the special tool, remove the retaining ring.
5 (Right shaft 4WD models) Remove the damper.
A) Remove damper clamp.
b) Remove the damper.
6. Remove hinge covers.
7. (4S-FE. 3S-FE (2WD), right shaft ZS-T) Remove the snap ring.
8. (4S-FE. 3S-FE (2WD), right shaft ZS-T) Remove the duster.
9. Remove boot #2 as shown.
Models without ABS
Models with ABS
Note: Be careful not to damage the rotor teeth of the speed sensor on the drive shaft.
10. (4S-FE, 3S-FE (2WD), ZS-T) Disassemble the intermediate shaft.
A) Using the special tool and a press, remove the boot.
b) (4S-FE, 3S-FE (2WD)) Using a screwdriver, remove the retaining ring.
V) (4S-FE, 3S-FE (2WD)) Using a press, remove the bearing retainer.
G) Using the special tool and a press, remove the boot.
d) Using the special tool, remove the retaining ring.
e) Using the special tool and a press, remove the bearing.
