Models with four-cylinder engines

1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.
Attention! If your radio has an anti-theft code, check that you have the pairing codes before disconnecting the battery.
Attention! On models since 1993, the airbag system is disabled if the battery is disconnected for an extended period. If the airbag warning light comes on and stays on after reconnecting the battery, take it to a specialist workshop to restore the system to normal.
2. Remove toothed belt and idler pulleys.
3. Unscrew the alternator control rod (see fig. Arrangement of a bolt of fastening of adjusting draft of the generator).
4. Unscrew the water pump mounting bolts and remove the pump together with the gasket.
5. Disconnect the cooling system bypass hose from the pipe, unscrew the two nuts securing the coolant supply pipe to the heater and remove the pump cover.
6. Clean all mating surfaces of the water pump.
7. Install the water pump with a new gasket on the cylinder block and bolt in the sequence shown in the figures.
8. Install a new gasket on the thermostat.
9. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Models with V6 engines

Places for applying a layer of sealant to the groove of the mating surface of the water pump
1. Remove the ground wire from the battery and drain the coolant from the engine cooling system.
2. Remove the toothed belt.
3. Remove the bolt securing the thermostat housing to the alternator adjusting bar and remove the thermostat housing and thermostat. On 1MZ-FE engines, remove the rear toothed belt cover (see fig. An arrangement of brackets of fastening of a plait of wires to a back casing of a gear belt).
4. Unscrew bolts and nuts of fastening of the water pump and remove the water pump. The 1MZ-FE engine has two long struts that must first be unscrewed.
5. Clean all mating surfaces of the water pump.
Apply a layer of sealant with a diameter of 2-3 mm into the groove of the mating surface of the water pump (see fig. Places for applying a layer of sealant to the groove of the mating surface of the water pump). On the 1MZ-FE engine, use a rubber gasket instead of sealant.
6. Install the water pump to the engine and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
7. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Pour coolant into the engine cooling system.
