Half shafts of different lengths (the right axle shaft is longer and is equipped with a central support with a bearing). The outer splined end of the axle shafts enters the hub and is secured with nuts.

The axle joints are covered with covers, the condition of which should be checked periodically. A worn cover must be replaced immediately, for which the axle must be removed.

Attention! The spare parts also include "split" covers, which do not require removal of the axle shaft when installed. However, after damage to the cover, the axle shaft should be removed to check the condition, clean and lubricate the joints.

Signs of wear on the joints include increased noise (clicking) when turning, loud knocking sounds when engaging a gear after coasting, and increased humming at high speeds.

Removal

Temporary fastening of the hub when it is necessary to roll the car with the half-shafts removed

1. Washer (outer diameter 50 mm); 2. Washer (outer diameter 18-25 mm); 3. Nut M14; 4. Bolt M14

1. Disconnect the battery from ground.

2. Apply the parking brake.

3. Remove the wheel cap (or hubs), remove the cotter pin and lock washer.

4. Loosen the hub nut.

5. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and remove the wheel.

6. Remove the mudguards, unscrew the hub nut.

7. Disconnect the ball joint from the lever (see subsection 9.1.7.).

8. Loosen the axle shaft in the hub with a sharp blow through the brass spacer. If necessary, remove the brake disc (see subsection 10.6.) and use a puller to move the axle shaft.

9. On some vehicles, remove the plastic cover by unscrewing the bolts.

10. Remove the axle shaft from the hub.

11. When removing the right axle shaft, unscrew the intermediate support lock bolt and remove the lock ring.

12. Remove the axle shaft from the differential.

13. When removing the left axle shaft, remove the inner axle shaft joint from the gearbox.

14. If the vehicle needs to be rolled with the axle shafts removed, secure the hub with a bolt and nut.

Installation

1. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

2. Push the inner half shaft sharply to engage the differential snap ring in the groove on the inner joint.

3. Tighten the intermediate support lock bolt to the specified torque.

4. First tighten the wheel nuts, then the hub nut to the specified torque, install the lock washer and cotter pin.

5. Check the oil level in the gearbox.

6. If play or seizure of the intermediate support bearing is detected, replace the support (replacement is performed at a car service center).
